Here is a gem that we displayed at the 2011 Vintage Motor Bike Show in Portland, Indiana.  While displaying the 1945 Keen Power Cycling Motor Scooter, we ran into some great guys who shared personal details on the Keen Scooter and factory.  Robert Hedgecock and his brother, Dave, stopped by to chat about their 1937 Black Keen Push-Start Scooter that they owned as kids.  In 1947, at the age of 17, Robert rode his Keen scooter to work when he was manager at the local theater in Janesville, Wisconsin.   He used to ride with a Delta flashlight so he could see the road at night.  Robert had the privilege of touring the Keen Manufacturing Company located at the 200 block of EastWisconsin Street in Janesville, Wi.  The factory was owned by JA Strimple who also invented the Mercury Clutch.  When Robert visited the Keen factory in the late 1940's he recounted how he saw hundreds of Keen scooters.   The Keen Power Cycle scooters he saw were paintedin either red or blue.  When we mentioned that the Wisconsin Historical Society documents that Keen Scooters were made in Madison, Wi., Robert told us the story how they were originally designed by two college students attending school in Madison who later sold the designs and rights to RJ Strimple.  Mr. Strimple then manufactured Keen Power Cycle Scooters in Janesville, Wisconsin.
